What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a world recognised tool for coping with stress and anxiety when life becomes difficult.

Jon Kabat-Zinn (world renowned mindfulness teacher) defines mindfulness meditation as

    "the awareness that arises from paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally"

Mindfulness is a skill which involves mental training to achieve higher levels of emotional intelligence and resilience when handling challenging situations.

 

Mindfulness helps us to:

  • Build resilience in times of stress and be present for ourselves and others.

  • Strengthen focus, memory, and increase your mental flexibility.

  • Shift self-defeating habits and thoughts and work with difficult emotions without getting overwhelmed.

  • Cultivate patience and self-compassion whilst developing empathy and effective communication with others.

  • Recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE)

Anne is a talented trainer who skilfully lead our diverse HR team though knowledge and practical techniques to enhance the individual and team resilience. The session was practical and action focused and the range of tools allowed everyone to identify improvement activities personal to them. Anne created an informal atmosphere and encouraged high levels of participation and engagement, and was sensitive and flexible to everyone's needs.

Bringing Mindfulness to South Belfast Schools
