Bangladesh: Joint Letter on COVID19 and Communication Restrictions in the Rohingya Camps

Amnesty International, along with 49 other organizations, urge the Bangladesh government to ensure a non-discriminatory approach in upholding the rights of the Rohingya refugees to health, freedom of expression, access to information and freedom of movement – all of which important in order to effectively mitigate the risk of the spread of COVID-19. As the world is struggling to come to terms with the COVID-19 crisis, the Bangladesh government has taken measures to establish isolation and treatment facilities in Cox’s Bazar district, an area where Rohingya refugees have been hosted. At a time when it is critical that the States protect the most vulnerable, this is a welcome move – but not enough.
