We Are Undefeatable returns for Summer 2022

"We Are Undefeatable", the campaign that supports and encourages people living with long-term health conditions to find ways to move more, is back with a new summer campaign that helps you work with your condition, not against it.

Being ‘Undefeatable’ is understanding that how you feel changes from day-to-day and that everybody’s situation is unique. Moving more when you can is just as important as accepting when you can’t. Every movement can enable more and is worth celebrating, no matter how small it might seem to someone else.

Ila’s Story

Ila is in her seventies and has osteoporosis, a kidney condition and a lung condition and found that staying active makes her feel “on top of the world”.

Ila does basic exercises around the home, including climbing the stairs, lifting tin cans, and marching on the spot. She’s had to swap some activities, like running, for less intense options, like walking, but nonetheless finds that she gets a boost of energy and confidence from it.

One of the things she’s liked most is the Zumba and Inclusive dance routines she’s been doing with her daughters in the back garden but has also found online classes enjoyable as she has met new people from across the country who all share her love for dance and moving more.

Finding Your Way to Move

If you don’t know where to start, why not explore We Are Undefeatable’s ‘Ways to Move’ page for some inspiration.

The campaign has created a series of videos with the help of TV presenter, Gok Wan, that encourage you to listen to your body and move based on how you feel, giving you simple yet effective routines to get you started – from ‘Feeling Relaxed’ and ‘Needing a Boost’ to ‘Feeling Energised’, there’s something for everyone. Watch the videos here. If you enjoy these routines, why not have a look at the ‘Make Your Move’ series of routines, and be sure to explore the We Are Undefeatable site, which has even more inspiration and stories.

Opportunities in Bristol

Like Ila, you can enjoy moving more with other people with shared interests whether that be online, in your home, or in your local area.

At Age UK Bristol we offer a range of physical activity opportunities for you to enjoy, such as Tai Chi and Nordic Walking.

There are also regular walking groups in and around Bristol, including the Bristol Ramblers, and opportunities to play walking cricket with the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation.

Whether you are looking to try something new, want to meet other people, or would like to help manage your health condition in a way that works for you, give it a go.
