The new international talent website will promote and facilitate mobility of research and innovation experts to the UK.
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is a key partner of the Global Talent website alongside:
- Cabinet Office
- Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
- Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport
- other government departments.
UKRI has played a vital role in ensuring that the site will serve the UK’s dynamic and diverse research and innovation system.
It will also support the health of the system as a whole, now and in the future.
This delivers upon UKRI’s people and culture strategy’s ambitions to attract and retain people with the right skills, across all roles.
Providing practical solutions
UKRI recognises that in order to produce the best research and innovation, we must:
- realise the potential of both domestic and international expertise
- identify where international collaboration is necessary to strengthen the UK’s outputs.
The website will provide comprehensive and easily accessible information about routes to work in and with UK universities, research institutions and businesses.
It will also act as a service for advice for international researchers and innovators looking to access the UK’s world-class facilities and assets on topics including:
- employment
- funding types and options
- career opportunities
- visas and immigration
- living in and moving to the UK.
Realising immense potential
Facilitating advantageous collaboration between the UK’s leading researchers and innovators and relevant international counterparts is an important step towards:
- realising the UK’s potential
- cementing the UK’s position as a science and innovation superpower.
This online service will help to support the government’s goal to recruit an additional 150,000 people in the UK research and development workforce by 2030.
It is a key deliverable in the people and culture strategy, published July 2021.
It also forms part of UKRI’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that the research and innovation community has the capacity and tools to work to the best of their ability.
Rising to global challenges
The UK has an outstanding research and innovation system that played a pivotal role in the international response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
No one nation though can address pressing global challenges of the future such as:

- access to renewable fuels
- climate change.

This will better equip the UK’s world leading institutions to discover and invent solutions that will ensure a brighter future the world over.
