The dog of a customer service clerk at the Publix on Bichara Boulevard had its day recently at Disney World in Orlando.

Sharon Dodsworth, who lives with her husband, Randy, in Leesburg’s Penbrooke Fairways Community, is excited about the adventure she shared with their new shih tsu mix, Royal, who is almost 2.

Dressed in a cute little pirate costume, Royal was recently given the…well, “royal treatment” in Orlando as part of the first ever Disney Side Dog’s Day at the Magic Kingdom.

“We had tons of fun walking on the green carpet on Main Street with Royal in the doggie parade,” Sharon said with enthusiasm. “We submitted photos of our new pet to enter the contest right before the Aug. 24 deadline, and Royal, who has blue eyes, was one of 101 dogs chosen from among all the Florida resident applications. They filmed the whole event for an episode of Animal Planet, scheduled to air at 8 p.m. on Oct. 18. We are looking forward to seeing all of us on television. Of course, nothing is guaranteed, but we’re hoping to see us!”

The program will be a one-hour special called “Howl-O-Ween”featuring “America’s Cutest Dogs.”

Originally from Rochester, N.Y., Sharon has lived in Florida for 19 years.
