Food on campus

Our eateries >

We have cafes, restaurants and 'grab and go' convenience stops across campus so whether you're looking for a quick snack or something more substantial, there will be something to suit your needs.

Free food for students to address cost of living issues

To ensure that you can get a hot meal when coming to campus, we are serving free breakfasts or dinners all week from the Quad Costa.

Knowing exactly what you're eating is important especially if you have an allergy or intolerance. That's why we label all allergen information on our non-packaged food and drinks.

It is also available on request in the Catering Office or you can speak to a member of staff at any of our outlets.

Dietary options

We cater for the following dietary requirements across the majority of our eateries:

  • Halal
  • Vegetarian
  • Vegan
  • Gluten-free

Nutrition and wellbeing

Eating healthy is good for the body and the mind. When you're on campus, you can be sure you'll be getting a great quality, nutritious meal which also supports a sustainable environment.

Our chefs use market research and student surveys to create menus that are healthy and delicious. We also adhere to guidelines of key government departments such as the Department of Health and Defra to maintain a high quality of food on offer.

We're helping to create a healthy community for everyone on campus by making sure you're getting balanced snacks and meals that taste good too.

Ask a member of staff at any outlet for more information about the nutrition and calorie content of our recipes.

Nourished Life is a comprehensive source of nutritionist-approved recipes, healthy eating advice, and lifestyle support. Find out the top tips to nourish your body, mind, and environment here: nourishedlife.co.uk

Sustainability

We know that where our food comes is as important to our staff and students as how it tastes. We strive to use ethical and sustainable products wherever we can and source local, fresh and seasonal food as often as possible..

We were recently awarded the sustainable restaurants association and we've also been accredited by:

We are proud to be part of the Healthier High Streets in the Barnet Council. At Middlesex University you’ll be guaranteed a healthy and nutritious food offer, and you have access to free drinking water.

Reducing our single use plastics

We want to make sure our campus is as clean and environmentally sustainable as it can be so we've made a number of changes in our food outlets. In selected outlets, we now only provide biodegradable cutlery and paper straws, we've installed refilling water fountains across campus and we also introduced a 5p cup levy on single use cups with a 20p discount if you use a reusable coffee cup.

Did you know?

From October 21 to July 2022 the water fountains have been used over 160,000 times, we've sold 650 reusable cups and with the 20p discount, students have saved over £2,000. We sold over 6,000 bottles of LIFE Water. We gave back £4,300 for sustainable projects to the university for your 5p cup charge.

Get involved

As a student, we encourage you to be active in our campus' sustainability and environmental care. We welcome your comments and suggestions for other ideas and campaigns.

Throughout the academic year, you can look forward to a series of events, campaigns and pop-up stalls such as:

  • Sustainability events
  • Stop Food Waste Day
  • Fairtrade Fortnight
  • North London Waste Authority ‘Wise up to Waste’ initiatives
