Sleep Survey – How Long Does The Nation Sleep?

We wanted to find out how the UK nation sleeps, and exactly how much shut-eye we’re getting on average (No surprise – we’re not getting enough, with the amount of sleep declining as we age).

Keep reading to find out our Sleep Survey findings, and how to support relaxation prior to sleep with Naturecan CBD.

How long does the nation sleep? Naturecan findings explained

Women sleep for an hour longer than men

1. The average woman gets eight hours of sleep a night compared to seven hours for men (66%).

2. 63% of couples said there is a sleep imbalance in their relationship, which has caused tension.

3. 60% of women said they go to bed earlier than their partner, sleeping more as a result.

4. The biggest sleep disrupter was heat, with 64% of men and 62% of women saying they had struggled to sleep during hot weather.

5. More than half of couples (57%) have slept separately on occasion to aid their sleep, though less than one in ten (8%) have separate bedrooms.

6. Almost six out of ten men (59%) and a similar number of women (57%) said they weren’t sleeping as deeply with age.

7. Sex is the most effective sleep aid with three-quarters of women (76%) and even more men (82%) saying they sleep better after sex.

8. The survey found that 68% of women and a similar number of men have anxiety dreams.

9. The most popular anxiety dream was being unprepared for an exam, followed by forgetting something important, running late, being chased and drowning.

10. Effective sleep aids were routine, good sleep hygiene (i.e. dark curtains and double glazing for silence).

11. The survey found that 37% of women and slightly fewer men (28%) had taken a sleep aid to help them nod off.

12. Almost 80% of CBD users chose CBD Oil as their favoured sleep remedy, followed by CBD gummies, CBD food products such as CBD cookies and CBD Balms or CBD capsules.

13. The overwhelming majority of CBD users (86%) said taking the products had helped their sleep.

Health professionals say we need at least seven hours of sleep a night for optimum well-being after the age of 18

These interesting Sleep Survey results were gathered by Naturecan, interviewing 2,000 people nationwide.

CBD for sleep: All the information you need

Studies have found that CBD may regulate our sleep-wake cycle and help us sleep more soundly.

One of the ways it does this is by directly influencing the amount of adenosine produced by the body. Adenosine is a compound that regulates feelings of tiredness: higher adenosine levels will make us feel tired, while low levels will make us feel more awake.

CBD won’t make your body produce more adenosine than it naturally would, it just helps your body to regulate it better. This is also why CBD won’t make you drowsy during the day, as it supports the body’s natural rhythm.

The most important thing when it comes to sleep is the quality of our sleep. If you’ve slept nine hours, but the quality of sleep was poor, you most likely won’t feel great the next day – even though you slept the recommended nine hours.
