History of Topigs Norsvin

Topigs Norsvin’s history goes back more than a century. We are founded in Norway and the Netherlands and from the start we are farmer-owned. We combine this with strong historic connections with pork processing companies. This combination makes us the perfect partner for both producers and processors. 
Start of provincial farmer-owned herdbooks in the Netherlands. In Dutch called Stamboek. (1906-1913)
1958
Start of first AI stations in Netherlands and Norway. (1960-1965)
1962
Founding of breeding company Dalland by international food processor Unilever.
1966
Provincial Stamboek herdbooks merge in regional organisations for the north, west, east and south of the Netherlands. (1979-1972)
1985
Regional Stamboek herdbooks in the west, east and north of Netherlands merge into Varkensverbetering Noord.
1990
Start international AI activities of CVZ Group in Spain and USA.
1995
CVZ Group acquires Dalland.
1998
The brand Topigs is introduced. Topigs combines the breeding programs of Stamboek, Dalland and Fomeva.
2001
Norsvin starts activities in USA. Dutch CVZ Group and Varkensverbetering Noord merge into Pigture Group, mother company of Topigs.
2003
Norsvin starts co-operation with Swedish partners.
2008
Dutch Topigs and Norwegian Norsvin, both famer-owned, merge into Topigs Norsvin.
1906
Norwegian pig farmers found Norsvin.
1960
Start of breeding company Fomeva, part of Dutch meat processor Homburg.
1963
Founding of breeding organisation Cofok by Dutch farmer-owned meat processors Coveco and Encebe. Both now part of VION Food Group.
1970
Start of international expansion by Norsvin, Stamboek, Dalland and Fomeva. (1985-1990)
1988
Farmer-owned CVZ Group is formed when Dutch AI Varkens KI Noord Brabant and Stamboek Zuid merge. Both are active in the south of the Netherlands.
1994
Cofok and Prova merge and become Dumeco Breeding, part of meat processor Dumeco, now VION Food Group.
1996
CVZ Group acquires Fomeva. Norsvin starts partnership in Finland.
1999
The brand AIM Worldwide is launched for the international AI expertise and support by CVZ Group.
2002
Pigture Group acquires Dumeco Breeding. This makes Topigs the national Dutch swine genetics program covering almost all swine breeding activities in Netherlands.
2005
Topigs acquires Canadian breeding company GAP genetics, part of food processor Maple Leaf.
2014
