Monique Roberts: Motorcyclist who died in fatal crash was notorious for posting about life in fast lane

A motorcyclist killed in a crash at the weekend had gained an online following for posting videos of her love of life in the fast lane and once told her thousands of followers someone had predicted she would “die on that thing”. Monique Roberts, 25, died about 5.30pm on Friday after she smashed into a roadside barrier on Tonkin Highway on her pink Honda motorcycle. Her injuries were so severe nothing could be done to save her. She died at the scene. Ms Roberts had social media pages dedicated to her motorbike and often posted videos of herself riding the vehicle to her followers. A month ago, Ms Roberts posted a photograph of herself with the caption: “Random people: ‘you’re going to die on that thing’, with her twin sister, Dana Roberts-Licastro, using it to announce her sister’s death. “That didn’t age well ... she has passed away in a motorcycle accident,” her sister wrote. That followed another post in which Ms Roberts said she “might do 140 past a cop later idk (I don’t know)“, adding in the caption, “I know my 250 won’t make it, but it’ll be fun to try”. In another post, Ms Roberts said she would go into 2024 with “the need to Mach Jesus speed”. Mach Jesus is slang to describe extreme speeds. In some of Ms Roberts’ videos, she can be seen riding either one-handed or with no hands, in some instances forming a love heart with her fingers at her chest as she rides. The exact circumstances of the crash remain unknown, with police appealing for witnesses. Still, Ms Roberts’ sister has started a fundraising page to help pay funeral costs in the wake of her family’s “tragic loss”. Tributes have flown for the 25-year-old, with one friend saying, “At least you passed doing what you loved . . . Heaven has gained another angel”. On Sunday, Jade Roberts, 27, also paid tribute to her friend Ms Roberts, saying: “Monique was a down-to-earth, kind, quiet and beautiful soul.” “She was creative, vibrant, colourful, and very expressive in her clothing, style, piercings and tattoos,” Ms Roberts said. “She also brought a certain light to the room and charismatic energy that could make anyone smile and want to talk to her.” The pair were in the process of arranging a photoshoot with Ms Roberts’ beloved motorcycle, which she had only purchased last year. “She loved her job, her bike and most importantly, her friends and family, who are utterly devastated at losing such a lively, spirited soul so young,” Ms Roberts added.
