PRAYER

Prayer is being aware of God. This takes many forms. As well as live-streamed daily worship, there are all sorts of resources available to deepen our prayers and encourage our faith. The range of resources reflects the variety of prayer styles that suit different personalities. As Dom John Chapman said, “pray as you can, not as you can’t”.

Bishop Martin and Bishop Mike have started a series of short videos exploring different types of prayer.

Praying for people and the world is one part of prayer. You can light a candle and write a prayer on our virtual prayer wall below.

Music

For those who enjoy music, the Royal School of Church Music has a Hymn for the Day.

Discernment

“Examen” is a form of prayer that helps us discern the presence of God in our everyday lives. Here is one of the many versions available online.

For a combination of music and reflection, Pray as you Go offers a daily programme (about 15 mins) of music, bible reading and a guided reflection.

Silence

For those who enjoy silence, guidance is available from the World Community of Christian Meditation as well as the Cathedral’s guide to Silent Prayer and Ways into Silence

Daily Reflections

There are lots of sources of daily Christian reflections. Here are a few we know to be good quality:

The Franciscan Richard Rohr writes on faith and the spiritual life for today

Henri Nouwen was a Jesuit and spiritual guide in the 20th Century promoting compassion and community

Lectio 365 is a daily devotional app that helps you prayerfully engage with the bible every day

Art

For those who enjoy art, Christian Art provide a daily image and brief commentary. Arts and Faith is a celebration of creative expressions of faith

PRAYER WALL

Please use this virtual prayer wall to leave your prayers. You can choose to light a virtual candle. We invite you to pray for our world, the nation, our communities and all those you love.

Each day one of the Cathedral clergy will pray these prayers.

You are welcome to join us for our regular services. These services include prayers for the world, this country and its people and we invite you to pray with us from home at these times.

Nigel

I claim the promise. Whatsoever you ask in my name I will do it. I'm still praying to be reconnected with my beautiful ex fiancee June from many years ago. I've prayed for years, but I know that God will honour His promise in His time. I thank Him for the faithful healing he is giving me, so I've no reason to doubt that He will hear this prayer. He says that He will give us the desired of our hearts if we trust Him.

Fred

Please pray for my friend Jodie to have a realisation of who God is and for her to start seeking him to achieve her salvation.

With God's help, I've been working on a powerful album with Him that I'm really excited about. Please pray for success and that no weapon formed against me shall prosper. Thank you so much for your prayers and God bless! <3
