my bio

I was born and (primarily) raised in southwest Baltimore, Maryland. I have an older sister and two younger brothers; a niece and four nephews.

During my middle school years (1984-1987) we lived in Munich, Germany —and we returned to Baltimore for my high school years (1987-1991).

I was brought up in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and in early high school I grew more consciously Reformed in my theological views. In late high school I discovered my strong interest in philosophy.

After high school, I taught English conversation in Chiba, Japan for about a year (1991-1992) before entering college.

During college (1992-1997) I acquired a serious interest in the theology of Meredith Kline * and the philosophy of Herman Dooyeweerd *.

After attending the last couple years at Covenant College (near Chattanooga, Tennessee), only part-time, I dropped out and moved into Baltimore city where I worked odd jobs and instructed children in catechism.

In the summer of 1999, I moved to Escondido, in southern California, for two years, where I apprenticed as a printer and audited courses at Westminster Seminary California.

In the late spring of 2001, I moved back to Baltimore, working at a coffee shop, until the fall of 2002, when I moved to Hamilton, Ontario where I enrolled at Redeemer University College, finishing my bachelor's degree in philosophy. I spent that summer of 2003 in Chicoutimi, Quebec studying French.

After two years back in Baltimore (2003-2005), working at a bookstore, I then moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands and began a Masters program in philosophy at the Vrije Universiteit.

After about a year and a half in Amsterdam, I returned to the U.S. at the end of 2006. I had hoped to finish my thesis at home, but various "circumstances didn't permit."

From about 2007 through 2010, I lived in the Susquehanna Valley area of Pennsylvania, working odd jobs, including teaching at the Susque Academy in Trout Run, and occasional substituting at Northumberland Christian School.

In the fall of 2008, after an independent study in economics and political philosophy, I developed an interest in the thought of Murray Rothbard * and was persuaded of libertarian anarchism.

In early 2011 I moved to Phnom Penh, Cambodia where I received a TESOL certificate and taught for eight months. I then moved to Beijing, China and taught English there for about three years. In May 2014, I moved to Budapest, Hungary, and continued freelance teaching there for four years.

In the spring of 2018, I returned to the U.S. and moved to Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania for about 6 months, and studied the art of mead-making. From 2019, I lived in Northumberland PA, working odd jobs and continuing research and writing. In November 2023, I began co-hosting the Reformed Libertarians Podcast.

In June 2023, I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where I intend to continue my studies and podcasting, while working odd jobs and teaching.
