The Great Britain SailGP Team, led by the world’s most successful Olympic sailors Sir Ben Ainslie and Hannah Mills OBE, has today announced a new partnership with British eyewear brand SunGod.

Last month, in advance of the United States Sail Grand Prix in San Francisco, the British SailGP Team unveiled their new-look F50 race boat focussed around ‘Protect Our Future’ and declared an ambition to use its sporting platform to play their part in the vital action needed to tackle the climate emergency. As stated at the time, change will only be achieved through collaboration, and SunGod, with their deeply-rooted brand mission to “See Better”, has today become the latest partner to join the team to help achieve this ambitious vision.

SunGod was founded in 2013 and has always taken a pioneering approach towards making better, more responsible eyewear. They create performance-focussed sunglasses and goggles that are ultra-durable, certified carbon neutral, and backed by an unrivalled lifetime guarantee. They are driven by their mission to See Better, which has inspired them to build a unique business model that puts people, planet and profit on equal footing.

SunGod’s commitments to building a better future were a key reason why the Great Britain SailGP Team opted to partner with the leading eyewear brand. Reflecting on the partnership, Great Britain SailGP Team CEO Ben Ainslie said:

“Partnering SunGod has been a completely natural fit and an exciting step forward for the team. Firstly, their products are best-in-class. Their lenses ensure a clear view in all conditions which is key to our success on the water. Secondly, and equally importantly, SunGod share our vision to Protect Our Future. They see a better world, through their lenses, through their actions, and through doing business better.”

SunGod will be the first partner to collaborate with Great Britain SailGP Team through their new COLAB partner programme, which aims to bring together companies from different industry sectors to drive positive change and behaviours. The team’s activation with SunGod will include upcoming co-branded merchandise ranges with frames made from 100% recycled plastic waste.

Alongside the partnership with the Great Britain SailGP Team, SunGod has also today announced a further partnership with British America’s Cup team, INEOS Britannia for their 37th America’s Cup campaign. As a British brand with existing relationships with key players in several high-performance sports, partnering with the two top-performing British sailing teams was the natural next step for SunGod.

SunGod, like the two racing teams, is driven by performance and its award-winning eyewear is already worn by the world’s top athletes. Judging the wind’s effect on the water is crucial to success in sailing, and SunGod’s anti-fog technology and 8KO® lenses, made from a unique construction technique with a nylon-based material are optically superior to Polycarbonate used in the majority of performance eyewear, this new lens material is designed to ensure a clear view whatever the conditions with a higher level of optical precision.

Co-CEO and founder of SunGod Ali Watkiss, said: "We are extremely proud to be teaming up with the Great Britain SailGP Team and INEOS Britannia as they represent Great Britain at the very pinnacle of international sailing. INEOS Britannia's prowess in driving performance, and the Great Britain SailGP Team's commitment to sustainable innovation, align perfectly with our own mission and SunGod's wider community. We can't wait to take on the campaigns together to maximise our shared impact."
