Good Practice for Secondary EAL Coordinators

Outline

This CPD is designed for teachers, Senior Leaders and HLTAs with responsibility for EAL support to gain expertise, confidence and the resources to develop excellent provision for EAL pupils in their secondary school.

Description

This course consists of three modules which will cover:

  • Effective admissions and induction
  • Use of interpretation services and tools
  • Use of assessment trackers and frameworks
  • EAL-friendly teaching strategies and resources
  • Promoting diversity and inclusivity
  • EAL and SEN – Distinguishing the difference
  • Developing an EAL policy and whole school strategy
  • Access arrangements for EAL in examinations and guidance on first language GCSEs

All delegates will receive an EAL audit tool to review existing EAL provision prior to the start date, and a bank of resources. Delegates will be invited to have a 30 minute 1:1 session with the tutor during/after the course to ask questions and discuss your own EAL challenges.

Outcomes

By the end of this CPD participants will:

  • Understand how EAL learners develop language and how to track their progress
  • Appreciate the importance of thorough admissions and induction processes and how to communicate with EAL parents/carers
  • Explore a range of EAL-friendly teaching strategies and resources
  • Develop an understanding of whole-school approaches to EAL

Virtual School Cancellation Policy:
For non-attendance and for any cancellations made within 28 days of the training date, the whole fee will be charged. For cancellations made more than 28 working days prior to the training date a £25.00 administration fee will be charged.
