The broad range of funds that we offer are managed by two leading fund management companies: Royal London Asset Management (RLAM) and BlackRock. In our fund manager spotlight this month we would like to introduce you to BlackRock.

BlackRock was established in 1988 and is one of the world’s leading providers of investment, advisory and risk management solutions and are a fiduciary to their clients, investing for the future on behalf of their clients, inspiring their employees, and supporting their local communities. Their experienced team of investment specialists manage around $8.487 trillion of assets (30 June 2022).

In pursuit of their purpose, a focus on long-term sustainability is embedded across their business. As the world transitions to a low-carbon economy, clients want to understand how to address climate risks in their portfolios. BlackRock provides more sustainable investment options than anyone and makes sustainability the standard for how they manage their clients’ money.

As a leading provider of index solutions globally, BlackRock has an extensive and flexible platform for managing index strategies across a range of asset classes, including $5.1tn across equities and fixed income as at 30/09/22. For all their index strategies, they employ a disciplined, pragmatic and adaptable approach to deliver consistent index-tracking outcomes for their clients, whilst optimally managing and balancing return, risk and cost. Access to their global trading platform also ensures that costs are kept low and they have optimal access to liquidity at all times.

You can hear more about BlackRock in the short video below with Georgina Sillem, Vice President, BlackRock.

We've also introduced an innovative and unique feature called ValueShare, which is an additional payment boost that may be added to customers’ portfolios in years that the company does well. Once paid, it belongs to the customer and can never be taken away.

Our parent company is a major provider of pensions in the UK and ValueShare replicates a similar feature available to their pension customers, and that has paid out each year since it began.

ValueShare is not guaranteed to be paid at the same level every year. Some years the boost to Royal London Ireland pension customers savings could be higher or lower than the year before. Indeed, there may be years where no ValueShare payment is paid at all.

Video: Daragh Feely, Head of Sales at Royal London Ireland explains in this brief video from our pension launch event how ValueShare, if awarded, would be similar to a reduction in the Annual Management Charge.
