Altenew June 2019 Stamp Die Stencil Full Release

All the details for designing these cards are in the video!

Altenew Peaceful Reverie

Isn’t the stippling layer on this stamp set the coolest?!? Stippling is an age-old technique that uses small ink dots in various densities to shade an image.

Every now and then I use stippling in my Zentangle® compositions. Traditionally, stippling is done in black ink which is what I’ll be sharing today.

Altenew Peaceful Reverie

I stamped the solid flower layers in Coral Berry and Sunray Crisp Dye Inks. The stamens and stems were stamped in Olive Crisp Dye Ink.

I used the Olive Artist Marker to draw longer stems which is just one more reason I love that all of the Altenew colors coordinate across their different coloring mediums!

Altenew Peaceful Reverie Stamp Set

The second detail layers were stamped in Obsidian Pigment Ink which is my new favorite black ink! I added additional stippling to the hand-drawn stems with a Sakura Micron 01 pen.

The sentiment is from the new Sentiment Strips Stamp Set and there are so many awesome sayings to choose from. This has already become a quick everyday staple in my crafting!

When designing with black I think it’s important to use it in at least 3 areas and to maintain large areas of white space. Here, we’ve used black for the stippling layer, sentiment strip, and splatter with Altenew Jet Black Ink Spray.

Altenew Pattern Power & Sunflower Daisy

If you love the Altenew Builder Stencils (Heart, Weave, Scallop, Cube, and Step) then you’re going to love the new Pattern Power Stamp Set. It’s so ingenious!

Altenew Pattern Power Stamp Set, Altenew Sunflower Daisy Stamp Set

Graduation season is upon us and the Pattern Power geometrics were giving me a college vibe. My husband graduated from Georgia Tech and I remembered the colors being black and gold, you know for Buzz, their bee mascot.

But, I’ve come to find out their colors are actually navy and gold. What?? So confused…anyhow, back to the card!

Maintain Your White Space

This card has a lot of graphic elements so maintaining white space will be crucial to offset the patterns and black ink.

Rather than using 3 colors with the Pattern Power stamp as intended, I only used 2 colors and stamped the pattern twice vs. three times. This helped to minimize the color palette and reserve more white space. See video.

Designing with Black - Altenew June 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

For the lovely Sunflower Daisy stamps, I only used 1 layer for the bloom and 2 for the centers. Again this minimizes the color palette and reserves the bright white highlights.

Separate Your Whites

In order to separate the white die cut sentiment from the white card panel, I layered a black die cut behind it and positioned it on the top edge.

I then popped up the sentiment die cut on foam tape so that ambient light would cast a shadow on the bottom edge and further separate it from the white card front.

So, all in all, we have black ink on 5 areas of this card, but it works because we’ve reserved so much white space.
