Despite an interest in using neuroscience to understand organizational concepts, organizational neuroscience is still ‘a field in search of being created and legitimized’ in the organizational sciences. This is in contrast to other, similar fields that have connected neuroscience with more traditional areas, such as neuroeconomics that are relatively well established and have contributed significantly to the disciplines of economics and marketing, respectively. This slowness to gain traction is demonstrated by the somewhat limited number of empirical publications (using neuroscience concepts and methods) in the mainstream management journals as well as presentations at the Annual Meetings of the Academy of Management. In addition, although growing, there are still relatively few organizational scholars who are currently conducting empirical research in this nascent field. This situation raises the question regarding how the ON field might garner more attention among organizational researchers and thereby establish itself as more mainstream in the organizational sciences. |
