Escape To The Chateau stars Dick and Angel Strawbridge have been branded a ‘nightmare to work with’ after Channel 4 cut ties with the couple.

The original series ended last year after nine seasons, however a spin-off Escape to the Chateau: Secret France has been filmed, but it is unclear if it will air following the investigation.

Dick and Angel bought a chateau with no electricity, sewage or heating in 2015, and the show followed the pair renovating and restoring it.

This week, it was claimed that the couple are reportedly under investigation, for an unknown reason.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the broadcaster confirmed to Metro.co.uk: ‘Following a review, we have taken the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future.’

Production company Two Rivers Media also added: ‘We can confirm that we will no longer work with Dick and Angel and cannot comment further at the moment.’

It’s now been reported Dick and Angel’s behaviour off set has been nothing like their ‘gorgeous’ on screen personalities.

A source shared: ‘Dick and Angel come across on screen as the most gorgeous and lovely couple, literally like butter wouldn’t melt, but they’re not like that off screen.’

The insider added to Mail Online: ‘There’s just spiky and volatile people – and as you can imagine, that’s a nightmare to work with.’

Back in October, the couple insisted it was their decision to quit the programme.

‘You know what, we wanted to go out on a high,’ Angel said, as Dick added to The Guardian: ‘Rather than someone asking us to stop!’

They continued at the time: ‘There’s still so much to do in the house, we could probably go on for a few more years, but every year we’ve said to each other, does it feel right to do another series?

‘Because it’s not a format as such, it’s our family life. With Arthur being 10 in January and Dorothy being nine next year, it was a natural time to stop.’

Metro.co.uk have reached out to Dick and Angel’s reps for comment.

Escape to the Chateau is available to watch on Channel 4.
