The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will be with the Queen on Christmas Day, it has been announced.

It comes after Her Majesty decided to celebrate the holiday at Windsor Castle and downsize her plans.

Traditionally, the 95-year-old monarch hosts a Royal Family dinner at her Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

But the Covid pandemic has forced her to change her plans for a second year in a row, as the Omicron variant rips through the country.

The Queen took the decision to remain at Windsor as a ‘precautionary’ measure following rising coronavirus infections.

Last year, the Queen and her late husband Prince Philip also spent the Christmas period at Windsor.

The head of state and her family are normally watched by crowds of people as they attend St Mary Magdalene Church, right by Sandringham, on December 25.

It has not yet been confirmed where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be spending Christmas.

Kate Middleton praised the heroes of the Covid pandemic in an introduction for a community carol service at Westminster Abbey.

Wearing a festive jumper, the Duchess of Cambridge was seen adorning trees donated by the Queen from Windsor Great Park with red ribbons.

Kate said she and her husband Prince William ‘wanted to say a huge thank you to all those amazing people out there who have supported their communities’.

She added: ‘We also wanted to recognise those whose struggles perhaps have been less visible too.’
