On 27 and 28 June 2023, armed clashes erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Manawashi village of Mershing locality, South Darfur. Recent preliminary reports from the field teams indicate that approximately 14,000 - 14,500 individuals have been displaced from Manawashi village. Reportedly, affected households are currently seeking shelter across Mershing Town, Duma Town, and Abu Ramlah village in Mershing locality, South Darfur, as well as the Nigaya area in Shia'ria locality, East Darfur. The situation remains tense and unpredictable. The area is currently inaccessible to humanitarian actors. DTM is monitoring the situation closely and will be activating its Emergency Event Tracking tool, when possible, to track displacement and provide additional information on shelter, sex, and age disaggregation, protection indicators, and urgent humanitarian needs.
