You are invited to attend the Joint North South Public Health Conference taking place online on Wednesday, 30 November from 10am-4pm, with scheduled breaks.
The title of this year’s all-island conference is ‘Healthy Planet, Healthy People’ and will focus on how the global climate crisis is impacting our health.
This virtual conference will bring together global experts to discuss the challenges posed by the climate crisis, but also the substantial co-benefits for health that accompany action on climate change.
We are delighted to confirm that Sir Patrick Vallance, Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government, will provide an opening address at the conference.

Climate change is described by the World Health Organization as the ‘single biggest health threat facing humanity’. It impacts health both directly and indirectly and has a strong relationship with the determinants of health.
Sustainability in healthcare will also be a key theme of the one-day conference and will consider how healthcare workers, public health professionals and policy makers can respond to the challenges posed.
The conference will also highlight the latest public health research, interventions and innovation in the area of health and climate change – a ‘Call for Abstracts’ remains open for submissions until 16 September.
The Joint North-South Public Health Conference is jointly organised by the Institute of Public Health, Public Health Agency, Queen’s University Belfast, Ulster University and University College Cork.
