Book Request: Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to the Book Request Service

This service is setup to facilitate online borrowing and return of print resources from the Library collection.

How does Book Request work?

Students and Staff can reserve up to 5 books from the main library collection. Borrowers can log on to the Primo (Online Library Catalogue) using their RCSI email ID and password to select loan titles. Library staff will retrieve items from the main collection if available and will have them ready for collection at Information Services Desk. Once items are ready for collection, an email notification will be sent to requestors.

Request Submission

  • Search for your desired book(s) and submit the request if available (you must be logged in to do this).
  • Once we receive the request, library staff will retrieve book(s) from the book stacks, scan it in the system, and put it on a hold shelf.
  • Once the book is scanned, you will receive an email notification to your RCSI email address that your requested book is ready for collection. The email will include a collection date. Please be advised that processing your request may take us a few days.
  • Requested books will be held for two days following notification. If your books are not collected within 2 days, items will be reshelved.

Collection

  • The book hold shelf is located at the library information services desk.
  • When you visit the library, please request the staff at the desk to issue your requested book.
  • Please ensure that you have your university ID with you.
  • Once your ID has been verified, your books will be issued to you.

Return

To return your library books, please follow these steps:

  1. Check your library account in Primo, the library's online catalogue, or the date due slip inside your book to find out the due date for return.

  2. Keep in mind that you will receive overdue notices if an item becomes overdue.

  3. Please note that you will not be allowed to borrow any new items if there are any overdue items on your account.

  4. Return the books to the Information Services Desk. Please note that it may take a few minutes for the books to be taken off your account.

By following these steps, you can ensure that you return your library books on time and avoid any late fees or restrictions on borrowing new items.
