Three men created a product called Pinky – a bright pink glove to wear while removing a tampon or pad, which then forms its own bag. 👛It’s essentially like a doggy poo bag. I never thought disposing tampons was hard. You pull the string out, wrap it in tissue and stick it in the bin. Easy. But here’s the thing: these guys found investors to back this product. While women-owned business for washable period pants struggled to gain backers. #wtaf It doesn’t make sense. There’s a substantial drop in funding for women-led startups. This wasn’t just part of an overall decrease in VC funding. In 2019, 2.8% of funding went to women-led startups; in 2020, that fell to 2.3%. About 12% of decision makers at VC firms are women — and most firms still don’t have a single female partner. The solution is not for VCs to suddenly start supporting startups simply because they’re founded by women. It’s to dismantle the institutional patterns and bias that prevents investors from recognising the potential of ideas presented to them. #startups #funding #venturecapital #endperiodshame
