We found that less than 10% of organisations have introduced an important step to making fair effective recruitment and promotion decisions. Here’s why… We asked a sample of organisations if their competencies, or other performance criteria, use Behaviourally Anchored Ratings scales (BARS) to define different standards of performance. BARS increase objectivity by making different performance standards explicit. However, 90% of the organisations don’t. This shows most organisations could improve their people related decisions by using behavioural science to provide better tools for decision makers. If you would like to find out more about how BARS can help your recruitment processes leave a ‘bars’ in the comments section and someone will reach out to you.

What happens if you invest heavily in recruitment but aren't able to retain employees? It's an issue that a major media and technology company encountered when trying to increase the diversity of their workforce. They invested considerable resources into recruiting a highly diverse employee base, but struggled to retain these valued staff members. Experiencing a high attrition rate of women in senior positions and minority groups in middle management positions, the organisation reached out to Pearn Kandola to understand why members of these demographics were leaving. Our team of experts chose to leverage the combined power of quantitative and qualitative research to address this complex issue, through a DEI Audit that involved: - Quantitative methods to identify and evaluate areas worth examining further - Employing a vast program of qualitative research, incorporating 75 interviews - An in-depth analysis of the data to deliver insights and solutions The results of the audit led to a significant breakthrough, with a clear path to tackle the high attrition rates and ensure the company's recruitment investment would not go to waste.
