Photographs of Ghislaine Maxwell giving Jeffrey Epstein a foot massage have been shown in court as Ms Maxwell’s sex trafficking trial continues.
The images, which appear to have been taken on a plane, are intended to show the intimate relationship between the two. They depict Ms Maxwell smiling as she massage’s Epstein’s feet and appears to press them against her breasts.
Other photographs shown to the court depict the pair embracing.
Ms Maxwell, 59, is standing trial on sex trafficking charges, accused of recruiting and grooming underage girls from 1994 to 2004 under the guise of paid massage work for Epstein to sexually abuse at his homes.
A third accuser on Tuesday told the court that she was just 14 years old when she was abused by Epstein.
Giving evidence under the name Carolyn, she said Ms Maxwell set up paid massages for her to perform on Epstein that turned sexual. She said she needed the money to pay for drugs, but after she turned 18 Epstein only wanted her if she had younger friends to bring to him.
Carolyn, now in her mid-30s, testified that she had told Ms Maxwell her age at Epstein’s estate in Palm Beach, Florida. She said the former British socialite touched her while the teenager was naked and told her she “had a great body for Mr. Epstein and his friends”.
Carolyn is the third woman to have testified that she was abused by Epstein at Ms Maxwell’s trial, which appears to be going faster than expected. Both sides had projected the trial would last into mid-January, but prosecutor Alison Moe told US District Judge Alison Nathan outside the jury’s presence that the government could finish its case by Thursday.
It is unclear how long a defence case might last.
Epstein and Maxwell were in an intimate relationship for some years but prosecutors allege they remain “the best of friends” after they split up romantically.
Photos aired in court this week show that Epstein had a sketch and nude photograph of the socialite hung in his bathroom.
Epstein, a convicted sex offender, died in prison in 2019. His death was ruled a suicide.
Ms Maxwell, who has been held in a US jail since her arrest in July last year, denies all six charges against her including conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts and enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts.
The trial continues.
