Academic Year 2023/2024

This module aims to introduce postgraduate students to key management and quality principles that can be used in everyday clinical practice. This module suits students of all backgrounds and experience levels as it focuses on commonplace issues encountered in the radiology department. It will equip students with a theoretical knowledge of management principles and practical applications. The teaching will be a blend of online learning with face to face sessions.
This module will offer students the opportunity to understand ways to deal with people & patients, focus on clinical quality, understand financial, ethical and operational aspects of their work, consider infection control management and focus on the application of research into practice. Students will consider applying these principles to their workplace and also self-reflect on their own personal interests in this area.
Topics covered will include quality management, risk management, clinical audit, infection control management, organisational and human resource management, ethical issues, leadership, patient experience, research into practice, operational considerations & patient experience.
The module will aim overall to ensure that participants fully appreciate the role, scope and importance of the strategically managed radiology department, with an emphasis on their role within it. The module will stimulate and encourage individual inquiry into how best to apply management principles in their day to day practice.
