Just yesterday I was telling my wife about a trip I'd like to do and take several days to go fish the hex hatch in Michigan.  From what I understand, it usually coincides with the summer solstice, plus or minus a few days or week.

Lo and behold, this morning as I reached out to open the lobby doors of my building near 15th and M and this was hanging out on the door handle - Hexagenia!  Or at least I think...would love a second opinion.

Boy, it sure looks like one but hard to confirm without knowing the size.  The hex can be cartoonishly huge.

BTW, this is why you should always carry a rigged rod with you, even if just going to brunch!

Hexagenia would make the most sense. Could also be a white fly (Ephoron Leukon) but it would be super early.

Mayfly identification is tough. We only know so much about trout stream hatches because of the intense observation they've been subjected too. I'm sure there are a thousand burrowing mayflies that live in warmwater that we don't have any familiarity with as fly fishermen.

I saw an adult Dobsonfly in downtown Harrisburg one time. That was really cool.

Ephoron leukon has no legs. IF it's ~2 inches long, it's a hex.
