Solar for Mangochi Orphans School in Malawi

On Sunday 3rd October I am tackling a marathon to raise money for MOET School in Malawi. That´s right! I will be running a marathon this weekend!

 

I've been training for months, with a few pauses for shin splints, ahead of the Marathon.

 

I learnt of this charity through a colleague who has volunteered there. MOET stands for Mangochi Orphans Education and Training. It is based in Mangochi, a township in the southern region of Malawi and a very difficult area for children to grow up, let alone thrive. Many of the children have malaria, the area suffers severe poverty and low life expectancy with 12% of children in the region being orphans. Across Malawi 25% of primary school aged children do not attend school and in Mangochi township the literacy rate is 53%, the lowest in Malawi. MOET school tackles these issues through providing education and training for over 300 orphans and vulnerable children. They provide them with clothes and books, they teach academic subjects, life skills, sustainable agriculture and so much more.

 

The specific project I am supporting is to provide solar power to the school, reducing it's energy costs so that funds can be directed where most needed. In fact, this would save enough money to feed all the children at school for a month, every single year. This is vital, as most children do not live in homes with the resources to prepare nutritious meals and they arrive at school hungry.

 

The project will cost over £10,000, and I would love to raise a significant proportion of this. Will you consider contributing? Your donation will help the project, and will help motivate me as I tackle the 26.2 miles.
