Summit to Sea Relay (for Grantown Primary School)

On Saturday 23rd March 2024, four years after the first SUMMIT TO SEA RELAY, parents and friends of Grantown Primary school are challenging themselves again to raise money for the school. The format of the relay is the same – using different types of activity to get from the summit of Cairngorm to the sea at Findhorn.

As parents and friends of the school, we are keen to take the opportunity to fundraise to help our amazing school and its pupils. The money raised will be to help support the school. By travelling through the great outdoors around Grantown, we hope to raise at least £2,000 to enable pupils to experience learning opportunities (and have fun) outwith the school building.

We will have two (non competitive) relay teams. Each team will have two parents per leg.

Leg 1: Skiing/snowboarding from the top of Cairngorm to Base station (having got there in the first place) – running of there’s not enough snow!

• Leg 2: Running down to Loch Morlich

• Leg 3: Swimming (accompanied by a safety boat) along the length of Loch Morlich from Loch Morlich Watersports to the Sailing Club (ice permitting, or otherwise running around it, with original swimmers cutting a hole in the ice and getting in wearing just swimming costumes with the baton before handing to cyclists to depart)

• Leg 4: Cycling to Boat of Garten via Aviemore

• Leg 5: Running from Boat of Garten to Grantown Primary School along the Speyside Way

• Leg 6: Cycling the Dava Way to Forres

• Leg 7: Running to the sea at Findhorn Beach.

• Leg 8: Swimming in the sea in Findhorn

This will be around 50miles in unpredictable weather and definitely very cold water so any donations, however little or small, would be greatly appreciated!
