Eat Our Shorts is NAHEMI's exciting student film festival, compiled and screened yearly to present and celebrate emerging student film talent in the UK. Each year, our festival unites students, staff and members of the film industry in a screening of a selection of student shorts from around the country.

This is our opportunity to showcase the excellent work produced by students this past year. The great news is that submissions for Eat Our Shorts 2023 will be hosted, again this year, at the BFI.

Not only will you witness the talent on offer, take part in the Q&As with filmmakers, see the winners of best film in each screening, but as an audience, you will also have the decision to vote for the best overall film out of all the screenings towards the end of the event.

Animation, fiction and documentary are all welcome! Members should submit a single film of no longer than 12 minutes, or a programme of films totalling no more than 12 minutes in running time, including credits. If they wish, members can submit one film that is longer than 12 minutes, which can be included at the discretion of the festival organisers, in place of their shorter film or programme of films. However, they must also submit a film of 12 minutes or less, which will be screened should it not be possible to schedule the longer film.

A judging panel of filmmakers and tutors will review all films, and there will be NAHEMI Awards for Best Film in each screening presented on the day. So, try and get along to the BFI Southbank on Friday the 17th as you might be picking up an award.

There is a further prize decided by you the audience. There will be an opportunity for audience members to cast their vote at each screening and decide the best overall film. Votes will be accumulated at each screening and revealed at the end of the event and the winner will be awarded! It could be you.
