Dave Taylor-Matthews, Festival Producer, Encounters Film Festival

Dave Taylor-Matthews is Festival Producer for Encounters Festival, the UK’s leading short film and animation festival.

The festival discovers, supports and develops new talent in filmmaking, providing a platform for emerging and established filmmakers from around the world, and continues to be a unique meeting place for the industry as well as an official gateway to the world’s most prestigious awards: the Academy Awards®, BAFTAs and the European Film Awards.

The festival currently actively participates in international networks including NISI MASA and the Short Film Conference, maintains international festival partnerships including Accra Animation Film Festival (Ghana), Short Waves Festival (Poland), Tbilisi International Film Festival (Georgia) and is a strategic partner of the British Council.

Elliot Grove, Founder, Raindance Film Festival

Elliot Grove is the founder of Raindance Film Festival and the British Independent Film Awards. He has produced over 700 hundred short films and also five feature films, including the multi-award-winning The Living and the Dead in 2006, Deadly Virtues in 2013 and AMBER in 2017.

He teaches screenwriting and producing in the UK, Europe, Asia and America.

Elliot has written three books which have become industry standards:

Raindance Writers’ Lab: Write + Sell the Hot Screenplay, now in its second edition, Raindance Producers’ Lab: Lo-To-No Budget Filmmaking, and Beginning Filmmaking: 100 Easy Steps from Script to Screen (Professional Media Practice).

Jo Duncombe, Film Programme Manager, British Council

Jo joined the British Council team in September 2018 to run the British Council Shorts Support Scheme and Travel Grant Fund, and manage the EU Film Festival offer globally. Alongside her part-time role as Shorts Programme Manager, Jo also continues to work as a Curator and Creative Producer at Birds’ Eye View Films – championing new cinema created by women with nationwide touring programmes.

She was previously a film programmer at the Independent Cinema Office where she programmed multiple independent cinemas and curated touring seasons of archive and repertory film.

Jo was Programme Director at London Short Film Festival, from 2014 – 2016 and is the UK film programmer for the Victoria International Film Festival in Canada.

In 2015, Jo co-founded The Quarter Club – a leading network for women working in the creative industries – where she curates quarterly Salons and training Labs.

Jo has worked as an impact release strategist and fundraiser on documentaries including A Syrian Love Story and Even When I Fall.

She has previously delivered training for the British Council's Film team, BFI Network at London Film Festival, London Film School, Encounters Film Festival, The Locarno Industry Lab at Morelia Film Festival, Birds’ Eye View’s Filmonomics and the ICO’s FEDs programme.

Philip Ilson, Artistic Director, London Short Film Festival / Senior Short Film Programmer, BFI London Film Festival

Philip Ilson is the Artistic Director of the London Short Film Festival (LSFF), which he co-founded in 2004. A premier showcase for cutting-edge UK independent film, LSFF is renowned for its innovative cross-arts programming and showcase of the country’s raw talent for 17 years. Philip is also Senior Short Film Programmer for the BFI London Film Festival.

He has previously programmed and curated film (shorts and features) and arts & music at Cork Film Festival in Ireland, the Branchage Festival in Jersey, the Curzon Soho, Latitude music festival, and the East End Film Festival.
