The plan for our fourth challenge, the '7 in 7 in 7 Challenge' is to run 7 ultra marathons in 7 cities in 7 days with an extra mile each day that will show our support for the MND community.
The hope is to raise £777,777 inspired again by our friend, Rob Burrow, and his playing number 7.
We will start the first run at AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium, in Leeds and run to York Minister. On day 2, we will be running in Cardiff, on day 3 in Birmingham, then Edinburgh, Dublin, Brighton and finishing on day 7 in London.
The money raised, in honour of Rob Burrow, the late Doddie Weir, Stephen Darby, Ed Slater, and the 5,500 other people living with MND in the UK and the Republic of Ireland right now, will support the fight against MND. As we embark on this ultra challenge, it doesn’t even touch the challenges that people with MND face every day.
We are proud to be supporting five charities with this challenge, charities which support people affected by MND and invest in research taking us closer to effective treatments and a cure for the disease. Our previous challenges have shown how much this country cares and we hope you can support us once again.
The MND Association will receive 41% of the money raised. This will enable the MND Association to continue its work across the country, which crucially includes supporting local groups and directly helping families who are dealing with the day to day realities of MND.
Leeds Hospitals Charity will benefit from 41% of the money raised to help build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND.
Three other MND Charities will receive 6% of the money raised, ensuring that help and support reaches people with MND in other areas. They are:
The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation which funds and assists research into the disease and is creating a network to help provide support for people diagnosed with MND.
Irish MND Association which provides essential care and support for people with MND, their families and carers.
My Name'5 Doddie Foundation which funds research into the causes of MND and potential treatments while also supporting families affected by MND.
