Why diabetes control is important before metabolic surgery
We welcome the article, “Clinical Significance of Diabetes Control Before Metabolic Surgery,” by Albaugh et al. [1], wherein they examined the association between diabetes control and 5 major surgical outcomes of primary laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (SG) or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). They report that mean preoperative glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) was 8.2% and incidences of 30-day postoperative infections and serious complications were 1.62% and 1.35%, respectively. Neither primary
