Dr. Kelton Minor applies tools from spatial data science and computational social science to study how humans adapt to planetary changes and climate hazards. He is currently working on several projects that bridge between Columbia’s Data Science Institute and Climate School to identify how meteorological and climatic stressors – including heatwaves and extreme precipitation – impact human behavior and wellbeing at scales ranging from communities to continents.
He is a member of The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change’s Working Group 1, and is developing global indicators to monitor expressed emotional responses to local climate extremes across nearly every county globally.
Dr. Minor is advised by Professor Marianthi-Anna Kioumourtzoglou and Professor Donald Edmondson.
Dr. Minor received a Ph.D. in Planetary Social and Behavioral Data Science at the University of Copenhagen’s Center for Social Data Science and was a visiting researcher at the University of California Berkeley’s Global Policy Laboratory. He previously was a US-Denmark Fulbright grant recipient and received his M.S. in Human Environment Relations from Cornell University.
