About Us

In 2003, the Queen’s Women Graduates' Association (QWGA) merged with the Queen's University Association (QUA) to form the Queen's Graduates' Association (QGA). While both associations run events for their members and each hold their own annual dinners, the QWG exists primarily to maintain links with national and international sister organisations. In doing so, the QWG assists in the education of young women and girls globally.

Please visit our webpage to find out further information about the QWG and its sister organisations.

Jean Crawford Cochrane Scholarship

The Jean Crawford Cochrane Scholarship was founded by Frances Grant (née Carpenter), a family friend and executrix of Jean Cochrane's estate. Jean was a member of the Queen's Women Graduates' Association (now the QWG) and regularly attended meetings and events.

The purpose of the Award, which was set up in memory of Jean Crawford Cochrane, is to encourage women - normally coming from the post-primary education system in Northern Ireland - to further their education through an undergraduate degree course at Queen’s, an opportunity which otherwise may have been limited, due to financial constraints.

The QWG helps promote the scholarship and assists the University in selecting a suitable recipient. One scholar will be recognised every three or four years (depending on the recipient's degree pathway) and they will receive approximately £1,500 per annum for the duration of their degree.

The inaugural recipient graduated in Summer 2019 with a BA in Social Work and she hopes to use her degree to help those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Applications for 2019-20 are now closed.
