on Assistance to Students and Staff Affected by the Conflict in Ukraine
The management of Charles University, headed by Rector Milena Králíčková, is following up on its declaration issued on 24 February condemning the aggression of Putin’s forces in Ukraine. The management has prepared concrete steps to help students and staff (and if need be members of their family) in areas affected by the conflict.
At present, the university administration is coordinating on this matter with the representatives of individual faculties. In the coming hours and days, Charles University will do the following:
launch a special telephone line offering daily psychological counselling services in several languages (Czech, Ukrainian, Russian and English)
introduce a daily information phone service in several languages (Czech, Ukrainian, Russian and English)
allocate a minimum of 150 beds at Charles University dormitories for the accommodation of students or staff and their families from conflict-affected areas
prepare a comprehensive system of support for persons associated with Charles University from conflict-affected areas
on the basis of further developments, prepare concrete financial assistance, especially through the Charles University Endowment Fund, or in cooperation with selected humanitarian organisations
The situation will of course continue to evolve, but Charles University is proceeding with conviction and synergy, with support from the management of all individual faculties.
In the event of a humanitarian or refugee crisis, we are ready to offer part of our capacities to the state authorities on behalf of Charles University. We are also of course coordinating and consulting developments with the Czech Rectors' Conference.
As a further expression of solidarity with Ukraine, the heart of Charles University (the ancient Carolinum building) was illuminated in the colours of the Ukrainian flag on Thursday evening.
We will keep you informed about further measures.
