Panellist Biographies

Gavin Humphries, Co-Founder and Producer, Quark Films

Gavin is a BAFTA nominated and Cannes winning producer having worked on projects with the British Film Institute, Google, Film4, Tate Modern and the BBC.

His most recent credits include Deborah Haywood’s PIN CUSHION for the BFI & Dignity Film Finance, selected as the Opening Film for Venice Critics’ Week 2017 and premiered in North America at Fantastic Fest. PIN CUSHION was nominated for three BIFAS (British Independent Film Awards), including Breakthrough Producer; shortlisted for the Evening Standard Film Awards; and nominated for the London Film Critics’ Circle Awards 2019.

Gavin's other work includes feature documentaries THE PEOPLE VS GEORGE LUCAS (SXSW, Edinburgh) and the BBC’s BOY CHEERLEADERS (Hot Docs, IDFA) as well as several short films - four selected at Sundance, one nominated by the Royal Television Society and three Oscar shortlisted.

Gavin is also currently Managing Editor of global online video platform NOWNESS, working with world-renowned filmmakers, musicians and artists, including David Lynch, Björk and Stella McCartney. Based between London and Shanghai with an international audience of 20million, Nowness commissions over 100 films each year and received the Webby Award for Best Cultural Website 2017.

Jeremy Wooding, Director, Producer and Writer

Jeremy Wooding is a British film director, producer and writer. He is best known for his work on Burning Men (2019), Blood Moon (2014) and Bollywood Queen (2002).

He also directs for television and his credits include the first series of Peep Show.

Tania Hoser, Director of Photography

Tania is a Director of Photography and Shooting PD. Recent work includes 'Designing the Future' for Extinction Rebellion and UAL, and BBC documentaries about allergies, cuckooing and Brexit. Drama credits include The Waiting Room for Oscar winning director Asif Kapadia. Documentary credits include Portrait or Bust with Alan Bennett, Waste Man with Anthony Gormley and Life through a Lens with Robbie Williams.

Tania started her career as a union apprentice and worked her way up through the camera grades on feature films, commercials and at the BBC. Completing her training at the Royal College of Art, where she won the Kodak commercial cinematography and Metz 35mm film drama awards and shot six award-winning films. She has a strong drive to capture the spirit of a story, excellent interviewing, sequence building, lighting (including the creative use of available light) skills and a wide knowledge of cameras, film and digital formats.

Tania has recently authored Introduction to Cinematography: Learning through Practice for Routledge which is now used widely as a cinematography course text at universities including the University of Southern California and UCLA.
