We asked

During November-December 2021 Essex County Council ran engagement surveys for both adult carers (18+) and young carers (aged 8-18) within Essex.

The survey asked about experiences of caring for someone and what things carers feel are important to support them. Focus groups were also carried out with carers in a number of locations across Essex.

388 responses were received for the adult’s survey, and 72 for the young carers survey.

To see key findings from survey responses, please see our report.

There is also a report highlighting key themes from the focus groups.

We did

All of the insight shared will be used to inform the development of a new all-age carers strategy for Essex which will be consulted on in early 2022.

Overview

This survey is for carers in Essex aged 18+. If you are a young carer aged under 18, please complete our survey for young carers.

Essex County Council is committed to supporting people who care for others, that is people who look after someone that otherwise wouldn’t be able to manage on their own. To do this effectively we must first listen to you, and this survey is an important part of understanding how we can improve what we do.

We want to hear about your experiences of caring for someone and in this survey we would like you to comment on those things people have told us are important to support carers in Essex. We are also asking for some information about you. This is important because it helps us to know we are listening to a variety of voices.

Why your views matter

Alongside this survey we are meeting in person with people who care for others to hear about their day to day lives. All the insight we gather, along with the information you share with us will help us develop our future plans.

Early in 2022 we will share our plans and you can check that we have listened to you in shaping our commitment to support carers, which is an important part of the Council’s 'Everyone’s Essex 2021 – 2025 Plan'.
