Creative Culm

Arts and crafts are as important as evidence for expressing our entanglements with nature, wildlife and watery environments. Through the Creative Culm initiative, the Connecting the Culm project brings together people working in different media but all with a story to tell about the Culm catchment. As well as connecting us with the Culm, these visuals, stories and other works of art help us to celebrate the wonderful world in and around the river. From this page you can discover, explore and get interactive with the fruits of these artistic labours!

Landscape artists and architectural illustrators have brought the River Culm, its tributaries and the wider catchment to life in the present and future through glorious colour.

Storyteller Clare Viner is just beginning the process of storying the Culm using a unique co-creation process with the river, land and people who live, work and play in and around the Culm catchment. Clare previously produced stories focused on the Blackdown & Quantock Hills in a book called the Emerald Dragon.

Creative Cullompton is a ground breaking new initiative, funded by Historic England as part of the High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ), to deliver a Cultural Programme for Cullompton’s high street over the next three years. Local willow and wire artist Vik Westaway and Cullompton residents have been working hard producing willow heart sculptures for the ‘Heart of the High Street’ display in the Walronds garden.
