About Us: It's an exciting time to be joining UWE. With Strategy 2030 on the starting blocks, we are making major investments in our key strategic priority area: outstanding learning. The Academic Practice Directorate (APD) works across the university to engage and support our academic communities in the design and delivery of outstanding programmes and outstanding academic practice.
About the Role: The new Associate Director of Academic Practice will join a team of senior staff who provide expert leadership, advice and support for learning and teaching enhancement activities. As well as leading and contributing to cross-University strategic projects and programmes, our four Associate Directors are hands-on: providing operational support for academic staff and students through team development events (generic and bespoke) and mentoring and coaching activities.
About You: You will be an established leader with a proven track record of programme-level curricular development and innovation, extensive experience of working with and leading programme teams and a sustained record of engagement in scholarship and enquiry in a relevant area of practice.
Experienced at working with staff and students at all levels within a University setting, you will have the negotiation, facilitation, coaching and mentoring skills to make our strategic priorities a reality across the institution.
You will have Senior or Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or a demonstrable track record of impact and achievements that would ensure a successful claim for Senior or Principal Fellow within 1 year of appointment), a higher degree and ideally a recognised higher education teaching qualification.
In addition to progressive pay rates we offer a wide range of staff benefits which includes a holiday allowance of 35 days as well as up to 12.5 bank holiday/closure days per year, flexible working, excellent defined benefit pension schemes, employee assistance programme, retail discount scheme and a range of family friendly policies.
UWE Bristol is an ambitious university and is proud of its achievements including a TEF Gold award. Together, our people are working hard to advance knowledge, inspire people and transform futures. We are looking for people with the skills and ambition to help us achieve those aims.
We are a well-established university with over 30,000 students, 250,000 alumni and 3,800 staff. UWE Bristol is one of the largest providers of Higher Education in the South West; we are globally connected and regionally embedded, with strong employer and partner connections.
Students join us from all over the UK as well as from another 140 countries, making this a diverse, dynamic and interesting place to work and study. We achieved an impressive 88% overall student satisfaction in the most recent National Student Satisfaction survey, placing us 11th of all UK universities for overall student satisfaction and 7th of all universities in England. We have also achieved TEF Gold status and The Guardian has placed us in the top 30 Universities in the UK.
This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give our students access to everything they need to succeed - with GBP 300m being spent recently on new state-of-the-art learning spaces and accommodation to enhance our offer even further. Frenchay campus is within close proximity to excellent motorway links and within walking distance of two train stations, making UWE Frenchay Campus the ideal place to work for those wishing to commute to Bristol.
The post will require some travel to UWE's other campuses.
Bristol itself is a hub of social and cultural activity. A place with a strong, creative and fiercely independent mind-set. A city with a buzzing music scene, great restaurants and interesting business ventures. It's not surprising Bristol is consistently named as one of the best places to live and work in the UK
