Blue is the Color #1

Times Like These

Rate this book
Nick Fletcher has the voice of a god and a tongue as sharp as a knife. His words can cut, and this time, his quick temper has earned him an intruder in his life and on his tour.

Dalia Brenner looks like a grown-up Annie gone bad, but he wants nothing to do with her pin-up worthy curves and smart mouth. His method of dealing is to keep his head down, get through the tour, and then he'll never have to see her again.

Dalia has no intention of having heart-to-hearts with Nick. They share a bus and sleep three feet apart every night, but that doesn't mean she can't ignore the scowly, grumpy lead singer.

Except she can't seem to deny the annoying instinct to "fix" the pain and grief behind Nick's sea glass eyes, even though she definitely knows better.

And Nick, well, he's getting tired of denying Dalia...period.

Dalia has plans though, and none of them involve being a rock star's girlfriend. Too bad Nick couldn't disagree more.

Nick and Dalia have a rough start…. yikes. Even with that, Nick grew on me a lot by the end. I also really liked Dalia. I love a good rockstar romance, and though this isn’t my favorite Julia Wolf book it was good and I’m looking forward to reading more from ‘Blue is the Color’.

After I read Blue Duet by this author, I anticipated to start her series Blue is the Color.
I had high expectations since the Blue Duet had captivated me, unfortunately I can not say the same for Times Like These.
I am still wondering why the author created such an unlikable character for Dalia. Her behaviour and attitude frustrated me almost throughout the story.
Regardless the good writing or the amazing characters of Nick and secondary, I couldn’t enjoy this story as much as I thought I would...

Julia Wolf delivers yet another solid rock star romance! I did have a little trouble getting into it, because I started it immediately after reading “Built to Fall”, and the similarities are uncanny. This isn’t just the fact that they’re both rock star romances by the same author, but they feel very similar in tone and even some of the side characters are eerily similar. That said, Wolf has an engaging writing style, and she sucked me into the plot. I love the heroine a lot in this book, but I wasn’t as crazy about Nick. Nevertheless, the romance was sweet and cute!

I've finally read a 5 star book this year!!! I've been struggling to find good books so far this year, but Times Like These was so great and I loved it!!!

Dalia Brenner is a 25 year old college student with one semester of school left. She and her sister go to a "Blue is Your Color" concert, and one of the musicians passes out on stage. Dalia happened to be recording it and was pissed, because her sister was devastated, and posted on Twitter that Jasper (the band member) was drunk off his ass and passed out.

Nick Fletcher, founder and lead singer of the band, is furious when he reads Dalia's tweet and calls her a word no woman ever wants to be called. He gets in hot water for doing that, and Dalia ends up losing her job over the whole ordeal. Jasper ends up getting in touch with Dalia to explain what happen, and they become fast friends. So much so that Dalia is offered a two-month job with the band on their US tour.

The one person Dalia does NOT hit it off quickly with is Nick. He calls her (to himself) the little intruder, and he's a grumpy ass toward her. Everyone who meets Dalia is enchanted by her. She's an absolutely delightful character, so full of charm and strength. I couldn't enough of her.

The tour progresses, and Nick and Dalia get to know each other better. They each realize they have each other pegged wrong, and sort of form a friendship, which of course, grows into more.

The characters in this book are just amazing. There wasn't one I didn't like. I hope the other three guys in the band (David, Ian and Jasper) all get a book. They are all rich, deep characters. There were other bands on the tour, and two of the other characters (Malka and Mo) were great as well. Wouldn't mind seeing them get a book.

The story was truly believable and it was like I was reading a movie. I could picture it all happening in my mind. I can't express how much I loved this story. I would highly recommend it.

I LOVED this book. Dalia and Nick are fantastically real and I loved their journey, their story, and everything about them. Really need a book about each of the other band members now, please!

Romance Rehab: Book recs, author services, general badassery: http://www.romancerehab.com/

There was lots of good stuff here. Then...there was some not-so-great stuff.

Plot overview: Quirky girl Dalia gets into an internet kerfuffle with rockstar Nick. He calls her a name no woman should ever be called. To make it up to her, Nick’s manager offers her a job as an assistant to the band, requiring Dalia to travel on tour with them.

So, I’ll start with the good stuff first, ‘cause that’s what my mom raised me to do:

1. I like Nick. Despite what he called Dalia in the beginning, he apologized, and honestly, I kind of understand the head space he was in when he did it, and I don’t hate him for it. I also love that he isn’t your typical manwhore rockstar hero. He was pretty lowkey about his fame and sex appeal and I enjoyed that about him. And he was grumpy, which is always a plus.

2. The secondary characters were all pretty fabulous. I’d probably read their stories, but none of them came across as clean-cut sequel bait, which I appreciated.

3. It was well written. I was invested in the story and read through to the end. I know that doesn’t sound like a huge compliment, but given the sheer number of DNFs I’ve had lately, it actually is a nice compliment.

The bad stuff for me was mostly about Dalia. I found her generally grating and unlikeable. She was a total Mary Sue (good at so many things, everyone adores her on sight). She was also stubborn to the point of being annoying, and rudely refused to go to any of the band’s shows, even when Nick practically begged her to. And even though Nick should never have called her what he did, she was wrong when she immediately jumped on Twitter and disparaged his bandmate, claiming he was high when he passed out on stage. She had absolutely no proof of that, and should’ve kept her mouth shut. She didn’t deserve what she was called, but she definitely provoked the attack.

So, long-story-short, it’s not a bad read. I liked Nick, and I liked the supporting characters. I just wish I could’ve fixed Nick up with a heroine from a different book.

(And also, this didn’t impact my enjoyment of the book at all, but I think Blue is the Color is a stupid rock band name. I know no one asked for my opinion, but, yeah...there it is.)

It was not more than O.K book.
First, I didn’t like Dalia at all, she was annoying and stubborn to the point that her behavior seemed offensive (I don’t get why he wouldn’t stop asking her to come to the show!!!)
Nick was O.K but I couldn’t get to why he was so into her.
It felt like nothing out of the ordinary to me.

I do like a good rockstar book. I really liked both characters. Oh, he's not perfect but a good guy. He's very loyal to his friends.

I pictured him as the model on your book cover but can not imagine a red headed adult orphan Annie and how that looks with tattoos.???

I don't mind their conflicts as I saw that she knew she learned from last relationship and that Nick knew where she was coming from.

Good story. My first from this author.

Julia Wolf is one of those authors I discovered accidentally because of a Facebook advertisement, there I said it, those pop up on my FB feed and if the blurb interests me I pop over to Amazon and take a gander. That was last year and the series was her Sublime series which I really enjoyed. Just last week another ad popped up and it was for a different series (not this one), but then I saw that she had a whole rock star series completed and one starting (the one the current ad was for) so I jumped on this book. Times Like These is the first book in her Blue Is The Color series and I was hooked. Don’t get me wrong, I had some issues with it like the hero being a total alphahole which I really can’t stand, but the other band members were completely intriguing and I adored the quirky, funny, take no sh*t heroine. Overall, I loved this book and the hero did grow on me or I guess I should say as his layers were peeled back there were some redeemable qualities to him. I loved the love/hate attraction, the slow burn romance, the fact the heroine turned the hero upside down, and most of all I loved that despite their differences, this couple found a way to mesh their lives and be together.

The last thing Dalia wanted to do was go to a concert of an aging rock band that her sister loves, but for her sister she’ll do anything. When the concert is interrupted because a band member collapses, an angry tweet draws the ire of the band’s lead singer and their legions of fans getting her fired. When the band member who collapsed reaches out to her so they can apologize she winds up with a job to assist them during an upcoming traveling music festival. Two months and she has to deal with Nick, the lead singer, who called her a horrible name over Twitter and started the backlash that got her fired. She has rent to pay; her upcoming last semester of college, so she takes the job and decides to ignore Nick because she needs the paycheck and it will be a good one.

I loved the premise of this book, the way they met, the animosity between them, and the fact that at first they really and truly didn’t like one another. I also loved that they were both attracted to one another which pretty much pi$$ed them both off. For only being twenty five, Dalia was mature beyond her years mainly due to her unconventional upbringing. I loved that she was determined, she had a plan, she worked hard to get where she was, and she was going to make something of herself. At times she seemed older than the band members who were mid thirties. Nick had always been the one to keep the band together, make sure everyone was good, keep them even, but the past year it became increasingly harder and he knew they were headed for trouble. When Dalia joined them her duties were pretty varied, but interestingly enough she became somewhat of a caretaker as well to the other members of the band leaving Nick a bit at loose ends.

These two had some odd moments where they seemed to be getting along but then something would throw them back into hate mode, a lot of the time that was on Nick’s end, like he didn’t want to allow himself to need someone. It got a bit tiring, yet each time they were getting along they talked and truly got to know one another which formed the basis of their relationship.

While not a perfect romance, it was a good romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. In addition it set up this series nicely and I can’t wait to grab the next book and get going on it.

When Dalia is dragged to a concert and there is an incident on stage, she innocently tweets about it, and ends up losing her job. Nick is the grumpy lead singer in the band, and his thoughtless response to the tweet, is the cause of Dalia’s joblessness. When a twist of fate steps in; Dalia finds herself on the tour bus with the band much to Nick’s displeasure. Will these two move from enemies / friends / lovers? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a beautifully written story, which is gritty, humorous, and with a tad angst and love. I was intrigued and hooked throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author, whose work I highly recommend for all.

I loved this book - As rock books go, this one is delightfully different. Ms Wolf allows you to get to know these characters (and can we beg to get more stories on Blue Is The Color??) not only the main characters but insight into the band and supporting players without detracting from the romance between Nick and Dalia. There are plenty of giggle worthy moments especially from Dalia, who's brash, redheaded and curvy and what she is thinking comes right out of her mouth - I love that she didn't like the band - I love that there wasn't a groupie to be had and I love that Nicky & Dal were true enemies but really got to know each other before the hot sex, which morphed into a love story that you can believe. Definitely hoping for more from Blue Is The Color.

I saw this recommended on Goodreads and as I’m a sucker for a rockstar romance, I just knew I had to read it. What I didn’t expect was to get drawn into the world of “Blue is the Colour” - so much so, that I just didn’t want to leave.
I adored Nick and Dalia; their chemistry is INSANE. Nicky is a bit of a grump but it was just going to take the right woman to bring the soft side of him out. Dal may not have been that woman to begin with…but after a misunderstanding is rectified and she goes on tour with the band, the dynamics of their relationship change completely. Dal is my GIRL CRUSH!! She is so ballsy and confident and had me in absolute stitches. She was just perfect for our moody rockstar.
Such a great start to the series and I love Julia Wolf’s writing; can’t wait to continue on with the other members of the band.

There are already two rock star series I’m completely, 100% mad for; Ashes and Embers by Carina Cole and Preload by Scarlett Cole. While the first ones are still being written, the second series is finished and I’ve been hoping for another rock series that will fill that empty hole and if the rest of the series is as good as this first book, I just might have found it.

Nick Fletcher is the lead singer for a group called Blue is the Color. They’ve been around for a while and pretty successful but Nick is getting burned out. That’s his only excuse when he reads a tweet from someone who trashes his bass player who passed out on stage. The irate tweeter thought he passed out because he was so wasted but in fact he had a bad infection. And an angry, burned out Nick does something very, very bad. He responds to the tweet, calling the person the C word. Now that is one of the worst things you can call a woman and he does feel bad but the damage is already done.

The irate Tweeter who was damaged is our heroine Dalia Brenner and while she’s not a fan of the group at all, her younger sister is and was bitterly disappointed that the concert she’d been looking forward to so long was cancelled when the bass player passed out. Being pissed off that her sister is so disappointed, Dalia fells the need to share her annoyance over Twitter. Now Blue is the Color is a very popular band and she gets some real negative stuff happening because of her tweet including losing her summer job that she desperately needs to pay for school in the fall. So now we have two people suffering because they couldn’t keep their fingers quiet. The manager of the band comes up with a most unusual solution to a sticky situation. She gets Nick and Dalia together for a meeting and offers Dalia a summer job while the band tours with a large number of bands.

Dalia is not thrilled with the idea. She doesn’t even like their music and Nick is a real jerk. But her sister persuades her to do it and she does realize it could be the summer of her life.

Nick is not thrilled with the idea. He does not like this woman and does not want to have to spend time with her. But he realizes he was a real jerk and if it does damage control because of his trigger finger and bone headed move, he’ll live with it.

So this is one of those enemies to lover romances. The rest of the band takes to Dalia and kind of adopt her. And as long as she doesn’t have any run ins with Nick, she’s having a great time. But beneath their bickering is an attraction and eventually the strength of the attraction overcomes their hostility. And, well, you know, romance book.

While not quite up there with the other two series, I liked this one enough to keep reading the rest of the series. Nick is a number of years older than Dalia and I normally don’t read this trope (unlike the opposite where the heroine is older than the hero) but it didn’t bother me at all. Nick is the caregiver, mother hen of the group and is always worrying about everyone else and now she’s under his umbrella of care. All of this is starting to cause him pretty bad burnout and Dalia sees this and tries to cheer him up. Both Nick and Dalia are fun and sympathetic characters and I’m looking forward to the next one up.

Blue is definitely my color now!

It’s currently 6.32am and I haven’t gone to bed because I couldn’t put this book down! I want to write an essay about how amazingly written this book is (this is my 1st by Julia Wolf), how strong and unique Dalia is, how wonderfully a good guy and still a sexy rock god Nick is, how I loved that she wasn’t a pushover and didn’t just forgive his f**k-ups and how all of the other secondary characters were great and hopefully all get their own stories too, but I’m tired so I’ll just say if you like the Rock star genre (or even if you don’t) this will become one of your favourite books.

5 AMAZING WONDERFUL FABULOUS STARS!!!!!

This book!!!!! I don't even know where to begin to describe how much I LOVED this story! The writing, the characters, the chemistry, everything was perfect and had me hooked from the very first page until the last.

This enemies to lovers romance was so out of this world and different from any others I have read. You can feel the chemistry between the characters, and not just between Nick and Dalia, but between any of the characters any time they interact. I felt that I truly got to know and love each of these characters as I followed them on their music tour. There was humor, drama and some suspenseful moments and I was definitely on the edge of my seat more than once.

I felt so many emotions throughout the entire story and was so sad when it came to an end. Please tell me that there will be more books in this series! I have to have more of Blue is the Color! - By Alisa

On a scale of one to restraining order how inappropriate is it to propose to a stranger because you loved their book so much? I’m guessing it’s closer to the latter of that scale so I guess I’ll try to contain my inner obsessive fangirl. Try being the key word there. Julia Wolf kept me smiling ear to ear from start to finish with this book! Unable to put it down I spent an entire day carrying around my kindle attempting to read while doing things that truly required much more of my attention and regret nothing. Who cares if there are shirts hanging in my closet inside out? I don’t. I only cared about Nick and Dalia.
These two kept me cracking up and swooning left and right the entire time. Dalia is seriously hilarious. I’m pretty sure she’s my spirit animal. She’s an intriguing mix of being entirely free while still being grounded and down to earth. She’s also insanely hilarious and full of sass. Nick is also a mix of contradictions, being an @#$hole and a total sweetheart. Occasionally he manages to be both at the same time. These two have an amazing story filled with laughter, love and sweetness.

This was better than I even thought. I so enjoy an enemies romance and this was rightly so. So we meet Nick and Dahlia and they had sparks flying everywhere even when they swore that they hated each other and to a degree they did and after you find everything you can understand why they feel the way they feel. The good thing about these romances if why they hate each other, how they deal with it and when it is so much more. Did I agree with what Dahlia did, no I did not? Did she deserve to get fired, yes she did? However that my friends begins the start of a great love affair..but will what she discovers with Nick be worth fighting for? Well you need to grab a copy and find out all of the tid bits that I provided..I know I gave you just enough to wet your appetite..Enjoy!

Book Hangover Is The Best Feeling

My very first book and definitely not my last from Ms. Wolf. I chose this book due to narrator Connor Crais my first from him and I love his narration along with Jennifer Blom. This book has everything I love in a romance book. Enemies to lover, a hot AF rockstar and a kickass fiery heroine. I love the music elements, the great song choices and the lyrics. And also it’s a favourite of mine now too that the book comes with a spotify playlist. The best past overall was that Connor sings!!!
