STRENGTHENING HUMAN RIGHTS FOR ALL IN 2021 – IN THE U.S. AND AROUND THE WORLD

STRENGTHENING HUMAN RIGHTS FOR ALL IN 2021 – IN THE U.S. AND AROUND THE WORLD

Amnesty International USA calls on the Biden administration to adopt a bold, transformational strategy that places human rights at the forefront of all domestic and foreign policies.

Amnesty’s suite of 80 policy recommendations cover a wide array of human rights issues – thematic, domestic, international, regional, and country-specific. Our recommendations range from releasing people in immigration detention to requiring federal law enforcement to reserve deadly force as a last resort, from ending U.S. arms sales that fuel war crimes abroad to building a humanitarian protection system that addresses the needs of people at the U.S. border as well as those seeking safety around the world.

All of these human rights reforms can be implemented through the federal government’s pre-existing powers and authorities. These reforms do not require new authorizing legislation or appropriations by Congress; nor do they require promulgation of new regulations.

Our policy recommendations are informed by firsthand documentation conducted by Amnesty researchers worldwide as well as the policy expertise of Amnesty advocates and specialists. We stand ready to work with the Biden administration to adopt these policy reforms, which, if implemented in full, will shine a light to a new pathway forward – one towards a more free, just, and equitable world.
