Applications are invited for the above posts, 2 x posts to start in January 2022 and 1 x post to start in May 2022. The post is fixed term for 6 months with the potential to extend.

These posts do not attract a National Training Number, but may be useful for out of programme experience for paediatric cardiology trainees, aspiring paediatric cardiologists or adult cardiology trainees with an interest in inherited cardiac conditions, as well as general paediatric trainees with an interest in cardiology. The post has also been approved for sub-specialty training in paediatric inherited cardiovascular diseases.

We are the largest centre in Europe for the care of inherited cardiovascular disease in children, looking after over 5,000 outpatients per year, and are part of the UCLP Inherited Cardiovascular Diseases service. The service at GOSH is part of the Cardiac Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and includes disease-specific clinics for cardiomyopathies, inherited arrhythmia syndromes, aortopathy syndromes and rare diseases with cardiovascular involvement. Families are seen at Great Ormond Street for screening, diagnosis, evaluation and management.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team that includes clinical nurse specialists, genetic counsellors, clinicians assistants, clinical psychologists and paediatric cardiac technicians, with close links to the electrophysiology, general paediatric cardiology, cardiac transplantation and clinical genetics teams. These posts will provide ample experience in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of children with inherited cardiac conditions, and will offer unique opportunities for clinical research. The fellow will rotate on a 3-monthly basis through the cardiomyopathy, inherited arrhythmia and aortopathy firms.

The Fellow will be responsible for seeing patients and families in consultant-led outpatient clinics, the investigation and day-to-day management of acute inpatients and the continuing care of current patients.
