The Aurora Trust (formerly The Ashden Trust) is a grant-making charity set up in 1989 and is one of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts. The Trust was founded by Sarah Butler-Sloss, who remains Chair of the Board of Trustees.

The Trust recently changed its name to The Aurora Trust. Aurora, meaning dawn in Latin, signifies our renewed commitment to do everything we possibly can to keep global temperatures to 1.5 degrees.

The Trust’s primary focus is tackling climate change through its programme areas: connecting people with nature, sustainable farming, stopping deforestation, aligning financial markets with the Paris Agreement and energy efficiency.

The Aurora Trust also funds its sister charity Ashden – climate solutions in action.

The Aurora Trust does not generally accept unsolicited applications.

However, we will sometimes issue a ‘Call for Proposals’ for one or more of our programme areas, which invites organisations to submit a proposal on how their organisation can work with us to achieve impact in one of our programme areas.
