About

WYD 6.jpg

Join the Diocesan Group attending World Youth Day in 2023 for an experience of fellowship, faith and jolly good fun!

Lisbon2023 is expected to follow the standard schedule of WYD events beginning with an Opening Ceremony & Mass on Tuesday, August 1st and concluding with a Papal Mass on Sunday, August 6th. Throughout the week, pilgrims will have opportunities to attend Catechesis, Masses, and Youth Festival events from concerts and film festivals to Adoration and prayer nights. We will also have a day trip to Fatima.

The pilgrimage is for anyone aged 18-35, who has a desire to celebrate their faith with like minded people, we guarantee there is no other pilgrimage quite like it!

The cost of the Pilgrimage is currently estimated at a maximum of £1250, however some costs have not yet been confirmed, so this may be reduced. The initial deposit is £130 with monthly payments of £140 thereafter for 8 months, although we encourage you to speak to your Parish Priest whether they are able to provide any financial support through fundraising. Any monies raised within your parish will be deducted from the overall total and monthly instalments will be reduced.
If we are able to reduce the overall cost, we will reduce your monthly instalment payments accordingly.
It is important that money is not a barrier to the experience, so if you do need any additional help, please do contact E: lizzie.wakeling@abdiocese.org.uk

ALL PILGRIMS
need either the new GHIC or their current EHIC if it remains in date across the Pilgrimage Dates. These cards are required in the event of a pilgrim needing medical attention in Portugal. The GHIC (which is free of charge) can be obtained online at Apply for a free GHIC card - Healthcare abroad

Please note that an GHIC / EHIC must be obtained to validate your travel insurance.

PASSPORTS/VISAS:

You can check if you need to renew your passport before travelling in the EU (even if the dates cover the pilgrimage dates) by going to www.gov.uk/check-a-passport-for-travel-to-europe

On the day you travel, you'll need your passport to:

  • have at least 6 months left
  • be less than 10 years old (even if it has 6 months or more left)

If you are a non-British/EU citizen, you may need a visa to travel to Portugal and possibly specific permission to re-enter the UK. Please check with your embassy and the Portuguese embassy to be sure about what you need. It is your responsibility to ensure you have valid travel documents.

Please note it is your responsibility to check that your passport / visa is valid for travel to the EU.
