Off-payroll working rules delay

Published: Thursday 19 March 2020

The Government has announced that they are postponing the off-payroll working rules (also known as IR35) due to come in from 6 April 2020, for medium and large sized businesses by one year to 6 April 2021.  This announcement comes just one week after the reforms were confirmed as part of Budget 2020 and forms one of several measures to help businesses following the coronavirus outbreak.

This will be welcome news for affected businesses and contractors, allowing efforts to be focused elsewhere during the next few months.  The Chief Secretary to the Treasury did, however, confirm that this is just a deferral and that they are still committed to introducing the new rules from next year.
