Primary school pupils in Wrexham have raised more than £700 for charity after being inspired by the late Captain Sir Tom Moore.

The years 5 and 6 classes at Ysgol Maes y Mynydd, in Rhos, joined together to host a fundraiser in aid of Nightingale House Hospice.

Inspired by the efforts of the late Captain Sir Tom Moore who raised almost £33 million for the NHS by walking a hundred laps of his garden, the children decided to hold the ‘Year 5 and 6 Captain Tom 4×100 Mile Relay Challenge’.

This involved each of the four classes walking 100 miles in honour of Sir Captain Tom.

Once each class had completed their combined 100 miles, they passed the baton to the next class to complete their 100 miles.

After four days the pupils had walked a combined total of 400 miles.

Their efforts and enthusiasm saw the classes raised £760 for Nightingale House Hospice.

Katie Prach, from the school, said: “We are so proud of all the pupils and staff of years 5 and 6 at Maes y Mynydd who have raised an amazing total of £760!!!
