About Us

Since we began in December 2010, with a National Lottery grant of £10,000, the Worcestershire Woodland Project – WWP for short – has engaged many adults with care and support needs from across Worcestershire. We provide participants with the opportunity to improve their levels of physical and mental health and wellbeing by contributing to conservation work and acquiring vocational and social skills using social forestry principles in a unique woodland setting.

Our base camp is in Churchill Wood, a private woodland which is owned by the Berkley Estate in Spetchley, Worcester. There, we help to manage the 45-acre woodland; which we do through coppicing the hazel and other woodland management. We also offer a range of other activities and crafts all based in the woodland – from Forest Fitness sessions with a personal trainer to making garden furniture to archery and much, much more!

We pride ourselves on being a person-centred service and value each participant’s abilities to encourage their self-confidence. We always work as a team and there are many different roles each one of us can do to contribute, however small.

We provide nationally accredited training for our participants and our commitment and focus is to provide our participants with the skills they need to help support their goals and ambitions; be they work focused or for personal and social wellbeing.

We have an outdoor campfire and an indoor log burner and all hot and cold drinks are provided free of charge.

All visits to the woods are by prior arrangement only – please see the Make a Referral & Contact page.

The Worcestershire Woodland Project is a community interest company (limited by guarantee). This means any profit the project makes after it’s outgoings is used to invest in the people that participate.

There are two directors of the company, Michael Maguire and Sarah Child.

We have additional qualified and experienced tutors who are all qualified to teach adults in further education and have a wide range of experience in the social care and education sector as well as additional qualifications in social forestry, bush craft, joinery and much more.

We also have a qualified outdoors personal trainer who comes to the woods and offers a circuit based workout using the natural environment which makes for a fun and inclusive session. Please see our other activities in the Activities and Crafts page
