Mudiro Mission
Mudiro ensures access to medical training for local doctors and health professionals in the north of Namibia, along the Kavango River. We work in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, local hospitals, health facilities, including Kavango East Regional Council Mukwe Constituency Office and the Medical University of Namibia.
On average, there are 20 doctors and health professionals who find their way from Switzerland and Germany to Andara every year, where they share and exchange their knowledge with the local specialists. With our new 4×4 Mobile Clinic, we will be in the bush 7 days a month, helping people who have health problems and cannot make it to the hospital on their own, and train staff so that they feel safer in rural areas. At the Academy, we have planned 8-10 further training courses per year, which we will carry out together with the state, for local doctors and specialist staff.

The Mudiro Concept of Medical Education and Training
Swiss medical staff volunteer for four to five weeks.
- Medical case review at the patient’s bedside.
- Training in remote outreach programs for health community workers.
- Focused training in the context of continuing education and training.
- Training students and auxiliary medical staff.
The focus is on knowledge transfer and mutual learning. The program is geared towards sustainability. Mudiro cooperates with the University (UNAM) and the Namibian Ministry of Health.

Our Fields of Engagement
Mudiro has been operating in the north of Namibia since 2014, along the Kavango River, on the border with Angola. Around 200,000 Kavango live here, consisting of several subgroups. The regional capital of the Kavango, Rundu, is the second largest city in Namibia with 90,000 inhabitants after Windhoek with 410,000 inhabitants.
In Namibia, there are economically developed and medically equipped regions around Windhoek and Swakopmund, and then there is the precarious health situation in the northern third of the country. The overall picture of Namibia shows extremely unequal regional differences. The economy is much less advanced in the rural north, and the Ministry of Health and Social Services cannot supply the resources to provide sufficient medical staff, doctors, and health professionals, nor to promote the further training of existing personnel. Mudiro works diligently to close this gap.
