Detail of outcome

Our proposals for the final design of the fund were generally well received. The majority agreed with proposals on:

  • which technologies it should support
  • the feasibility and engineering studies
  • funding support and how it would be delivered

The proposals on eligible organisations and the minimum grant award size received a mixed response, so we have lowered the minimum threshold from £1 million to £250,000 to allow more SMEs to apply.

The IETF will be delivered in 2 phases:

  • Phase 1, with up to £30 million of funding for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, will open on 20 July 2020
  • Phase 2, with the remainder of the funding, will launch in 2021

We have now published the Phase 1 guidance for applicants.

Detail of feedback received

We received 88 responses to our formal consultation.

Responses were from:

  • manufacturing companies (50%)
  • trade associations
  • local government
  • academics
  • non-governmental organisations (NGOs)

We held 6 consultation events across the UK, which were attended by 131 stakeholders. 27 of these responded formally to the consultation.
