The Keyboard Studies Programme provides high-quality melodica, accordion, piano and organ tuition to young people across the Diocese, furnishing them with the foundations to be skilful, multi-talented individuals within the music profession.

This week, over 60 Choral Directors and schools singing programme managers from Catholic dioceses and Anglican cathedrals across the UK gathered at Hinsley Hall in Leeds for the third annual NSSP Conference. Sessions covered a range of topics including creating the ideal learning environment (Peter Knight and Sarah-Marie Jones, Archdiocese of Cardiff), resources and pathways in the NSSP (Dr Rebecca Berkley, University of Reading), vocal progression techniques (Suzzie Vango, co-author of ‘how to make your choir sound awesome’), integrating the music curriculum into singing sessions (Laura Steelyard, Assistant Director of the Leeds Schools Singing Programme) and a Q&A on sustainable fundraising in the arts with Jo Clunie from The Vinehill Trust.A particular highlight of the conference was a singing workshop led by the renowned composer John Rutter focusing on his new Missa Brevis, which he then conducted delegates and the Leeds Cathedral Senior Girls, Senior Boys, Schools Scholars and Choral Scholars in at Mass.“I departed feeling invigorated and motivated, fully equipped to embrace the challenges of the upcoming term.
